THIS IS A REPRINT FROM MY COLUMN: "OutFOXintheTriad" - APRIL. 2006 HIPPO MAGAZINE: This month I focus on a day in Winston-Salem. To start, I bring tales of a winsome Winston eatery, There IS something about…Mary’s, Of Course and you must experience it firsthand! Situated snugly at the corner of Cherry St. and Brookstown Ave, the exterior exudes a quiet charm that can turn lively with warm-weather outdoor diners. A cheerfully bright interior laden with fab, fun art and sprinkled liberally with retro kitsch is just waiting to welcome you in, however, along with the upbeat and friendly staff. A hand painted sign hanging below the cash register invites “regulars” to leave their own favorite coffee mugs on the premises and goes on to detail with some attitude just what might confirm your status as such. Cheekiness aside, the important thing here is the food! Mary’s, Of Course is filled not only with art but heart and Mary’s “cooked with love” philosophy is clearly evident. Yes, I said Mary, the proprietor, indeed does all the cooking at this popular lunch/brunch spot. An early arrival will ensure you full choice of daily specials selected with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian tastes carefully considered.
